The 18th edition of the International Flow Battery Forum (IFBF®) – the leading event for the flow battery community – will take place on 22–24 June 2027 in Barcelona, Spain, at the Barceló Sants Hotel, located on top of the main Barcelona Sants railway station in the Sants-Montjuïc district.
Over three days, IFBF will feature the participation of 300+ delegates, in line with IFBF 2026 in Budapest, among manufacturers, utilities, suppliers, policymakers, researchers, academics, and students from all over the world, 50+ speakers delivering presentations and panel discussions, an exhibition area with 25+ stands, many networking moments including a cocktail reception and a conference dinner, 50+ posters with a dedicated poster session, poster awards and a speed-pitching contest on the main stage, and other additional activities (morning run, flow battery design prize, and more).

CALL FOR PROPOSALS
The call for proposals opens on 1 November 2026 and closes on 15 January 2027. Proposals are welcome for presentations, keynote addresses, interviews, panel discussions, posters and papers. See the call for proposals for the full brief and the deadlines.

All IFBF tickets include access to the three-day conference, the exhibition area, and the poster session and cocktail reception on Day 2. A separate ticket is required for the conference dinner and the site visit. A full ticket including all the IFBF activities is available in limited numbers.

What is the International Flow Battery Forum?
The International Flow Battery Forum (IFBF) is the annual conference of the flow battery community. It has been held every year since 2010, each time in a different country, and brings together manufacturers, utilities, suppliers, policymakers, researchers, academics and students working on flow batteries — a long-duration energy storage technology used to store renewable energy. IFBF 2027 in Barcelona is the 18th edition.
When and where does IFBF 2027 take place?
IFBF 2027 runs from 22 to 24 June 2027 at the Barceló Sants Hotel in Barcelona, Spain, and online. The venue sits on top of Barcelona Sants, the city’s main railway station, in the Sants-Montjuïc district.
Who attends the IFBF?
More than 300 delegates from around the world attend, across manufacturers, utilities, suppliers, policymakers, researchers, academics and students. The 2027 programme includes over 50 speakers across presentations and panel discussions, an exhibition area with more than 25 stands, and a poster session with over 50 posters.
Can I attend online?
Yes. Tickets are available both onsite and online, in three categories: Standard, Academic and Student.
How much does a ticket cost?
In-person tickets for IFBF 2027 are €1,495 Standard, €1,250 Academic and €500 Student, with early bird rates of €1,280 Standard and €1,040 Academic. Online tickets are €850 Standard, €550 Academic and €300 Student, with early bird rates of €650, €450 and €200. All prices are subject to an additional 21% VAT. Every ticket includes access to the three-day conference, the exhibition area, the poster session and the cocktail reception on Day 2. The conference dinner on Day 1 costs €120 and the site visit on Day 3 costs €70, unless included in a full ticket. Full details are on the ticket prices page.
When do tickets go on sale?
Registration for IFBF 2027 opens on 1 February 2027. Early bird rates run from 1 February to 31 March 2027; the standard rate applies from 1 April until the event. Student tickets, the conference dinner and the site visit cost the same in both periods. Authors whose proposal is accepted keep the early bird rate, whatever date they register.
How do I submit a presentation, a poster or a paper?
The call for proposals for IFBF 2027 opens on 1 November 2026 and closes on 15 January 2027. Proposals are welcome for presentations, keynote addresses, interviews, panel discussions, posters and papers, and are submitted through Oxford Abstracts. Are the papers published?
Yes. Every presenter is asked to write a short standalone paper, and these are collected in the IFBF Book of Papers, one volume per edition. 821 papers have been published across 16 editions, from 2010 to 2026. The full list is searchable by title, author and organisation on the list of conference papers, and the volumes are available as ebooks.
Can my company exhibit or sponsor?
