At the end of 2021 we asked for your views on the most important topics for flow batteries. We had many excellent responses – thank you – and your ideas are helping to shape the agenda for the IFBF’s future work.

COP 26 provided good publicity for the urgent need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The business case for energy storage, and especially long duration energy storage, is becoming clearer as we all consider the need to use conventional fuels more wisely. But there is more work to be done if we are to see companies constructing flow battery gigafactories. There are many competitors to flow batteries, but there also are many opportunities to make best use of this very flexible, safe and low-cost technology.

Our call for papers for the IFBF Conference 2022 is now open. Please submit your proposals as soon as possible, and before 31 January 2022. We are interested in papers that cover all aspects of flow battery research, development, manufacture, deployment and commercialisation.

The IFBF Conference will be held in Brussels, 27–29 June 2022, in conjunction with Flow Batteries Europe’s open meeting, and the meetings of other industry and research groups. We are planning a hybrid event, but ideally would like to see as many of you in person as possible. The IFBF team, our colleagues, and friends from around the world, are all looking forward to seeing you again.
