Conference delegates wishing to present at this year’s IFBF are invited to submit a proposal. Your proposal will give an overview of what you wish to present along with any supporting information explaining why you would like to present at IFBF. Proposals which report on recent and novel work will be prioritised and we are especially keen to welcome authors who wish to use the IFBF as the first public disclosure of their work. However, we also welcome news and updates on existing projects. The topics covered in this year’s IFBF are detailed below.

Your proposal must be no more than 500 words. Further information is provided on the submission website.

Submission opens on 1 December 2019 and closes on 31 January 2020. Please submit your proposal for review by our panel as soon as possible. We aim to inform presenters whether you have been selected by March 2020.

Oral presentations

The oral presentation session gives authors an opportunity to present and answer questions on their mini-paper. Presentation slots are around 15 minutes each and we aim to group presentations into themes in order to encourage discussion and debate. All oral presenters will be required to submit a two-page mini-paper, which will be published in the IFBF Conference Book of Papers.

If you are selected to give an oral presentation, you will be provided with details of your presentation session and you will be required to provide your two page mini-paper by 15 May 2020.

The IFBF will consider maintaining the confidentiality of papers and presentation materials until the start of the conference. Please notify the IFBF office as soon as possible of any confidentiality requirements associated with your two-page mini-paper.

If your proposal for an oral presentation is not selected, it will be considered for the poster presentation session and the reserve list of oral presentations.

Poster presentations

The IFBF gives you an opportunity to display a poster and to take part in a presentation session where you can share and discuss work with other delegates.

Our poster session is one of the conference highlights and gives a first class opportunity for delegates to present their work and discuss in an open session.

Your poster will be displayed for the duration of the conference. Before the session, each poster presenter is invited to give a 60-second introduction to their poster. A summary of the poster paper will be published in the conference proceedings and an electronic copy will be published on our website.

If you are selected for the poster presentation session, you will be contacted to provide your poster and the summary. You may also provide a two-page mini-paper, which will be published in the IFBF Conference Book of Papers. You will need to provide your poster (and optional two-page mini-paper) by 15 May 2020.

The poster session has a very high engagement and exchange of ideas between authors and delegates. The IFBF awards prizes to poster presenters, including:

  • Best oral introduction by a poster presenter
  • Best poster display
  • Best discussion with the assessors

Panel sessions

Some concepts, particularly related to the commercial and industrial aspects of flow batteries, will be discussed in panel sessions. Speakers will be allocated 5 minutes to make an opening statement, followed by an interactive discussion amongst the panel speakers. Speakers are encouraged to submit a two-page mini-paper, which will be published in the IFBF Conference Book of Papers. This must be submitted by 15 May 2020.

Exhibitors

There will be an exhibition area in the conference venue, which is suitable for the exhibition of commercial products and services. Please contact us for details of costs for exhibiting and sponsoring at the conference.

Sessions at the IFBF 2020 will include the following topics:

  • Flow battery case studies, with details of flow battery applications and operational data 
  • Novel applications for flow batteries, including mobile, portable and transportable systems
  • Analysis of flow battery markets and opportunities
  • Flow battery performance improvements

  • Changes in flow battery technology
  • Contrasting methods of flow battery manufacture or flow battery chemistries
  • Funding and finance solutions
  • Environmental, health and safety aspects and the development of national, international standards & regulations

  • Authors, co-authors and poster presenters have the opportunity to present to the leading members of the flow battery industry, and to share their knowledge and experience.
  • All accepted two-page mini-papers will be published in the IFBF Conference Book of Papers.
  • The conference proceedings are indexed and submitted to the major libraries and referencing services and may be cited in the literature.
  • The IFBF offers good opportunities for networking, and in many cases has led to agreements and co-operation and commercial contracts between participants.

  • 2nd March 2020 – Authors notified of success
  • 30th April 2020 – Authors to confirm attendance and registration
  • 30th April 2020 – Early bird registration closes
  • 15th May 2020 – Final submission date for the two-page mini-paper or poster

Important information for presenters

  1. The conference language is English.
  2. You will need to register with the Oxford Abstracts system at the start of the process. The registration will use your email address as your username. This username will be allocated to you for the process from submission of your proposal through to registration of your delegate place.
  3. All presenters (oral, poster and panel) are required to register for the conference, so that we can provide a fair and equitable rate for delegates. We offer reduced registration rates for members of recognised academic institutions and also for students on recognised undergraduate or postgraduate courses.
  4. Your proposal must be between 100 and 500 words and will outline the content of your proposed submission. If this is follow-on work to a paper or poster submitted at previous IFBF, you should give sufficient reasons for inclusion of the new work. We welcome follow on news and reports of ongoing project work where there is new information.
  5. Presentations should avoid advertising or self-promotion, but the provision of current business activities and technical progress is welcome.
  6. All proposals will be screened for selection by the IFBF review panel.
